Get to know one of London’s rising artists who are part of Lick The Future. Taylor Bystrom is an American transgender Pop Artist specialised in 3D immersive art who graduated from Goldsmiths in 2020. He always says that the T in LGBT has been silent too long and through art, he changes people's perception of how they view trans people. And here are 5 questions.
What’s the most American thing about you?
I’d have to say the most American thing about me is my obsession with fast food. I just can’t get enough of it and one of my favorite things to tell people from the UK is how much better the quality of their McDonald’s menu is than ours in the States.
If this pandemic is a song, what do you think it’ll be?
Oh my god I have the perfect jam for this. “ Neighbours” by Too Many T’s, a south London based rap funk duo. It’s really funny when you think about it because our neighbors are lovely and elderly but when I found this song obviously we had been spending a lot of time at home and this song is just too catchy not to play full volume.
What’s the weirdest thing you encountered in Hastings?
So this one is a weird one for me because it’s only a personal account from one of Lori’s friends but apparently there is an old man that roams down on the beach with a drinks cooler claiming that he’s selling fish but really he’s selling weed. I’ve yet to encounter him but eager to try the “fish” . What a legend.
What's the best Wi-Fi name you've seen?
I’d have to say “99problemsbutWiFiaint1"
If you’ve had the world’s attention for 1 min, what would you say?
I’d tell the world that trans people are not dangerous and we want to live long and fulfilling lives just like everyone else. I want a future where transgender people are thriving and realize the long lineage of people that have felt like them throughout history and that this is not a phase or a new thing. Love yourself and celebrate who you are everyday.
